The long and winding road ... no yellow bricks though! On the way down the other side of the mountain we encountered what we think was about 20 hairpin bends, there was so many we didn't think to count them from the first one at the top (and weren't keen to go back up just for a count!!).

On the edge of the Sierra Espuna was a monastery called Santuario Eulalia or something like that. It had fabulous gardens, complete with some tourist playing trumpet very badly. How those two things are related, we have no idea!

La Azohia beach, not far from our holiday apartment. It was a long beach with rocky areas and sandy areas - and was almost deserted. Alongside the beach was a very nice wide promenade.

Another pic of the La Azohia beach, looking away from the direction of the apartment toward some of the many hills around the area.

This pic shows how rocky some parts of the beach are.

We braved some narrow mountain roads on our trip and found ourselves at the top of this hill not far from the apartment but a good half hour drive to the end of the road, near some communications towers. You can see quite a long way from there, including the acres and acres of white plastic covered market gardens, the ubiquitous apartment blocks going up, and of course the coast with miles of beaches.

Here you can see more market gardens and to the bottom right of the photo, the apartment complex where we stayed. We were on the top floor with a roof terrace, a pic of that is below. Our apartment complex was just two storeys high but a lot were 5 and 6 storeys.

This shows just how far you could see down the coast from our lofty vantage point!

A well-used corner of our roof terrace for the week! Spent most evening here with some good BBQ food and Tim's company as well.

North of our village base, is a very long strip of land called La Manga that separates the Med from an inland sea called Mar Menor. All along this strip are zillions of apartment buildings, hotels and restaurants. This photos hows near the end of the strip and gives a good idea what the apartment buildings are like.

"The Bridge From Hell" which Rod relished driving over in each direction! It's very steep and it was a good idea to remember you drive on the right-hand side of the road - you can't see what is coming up the other side which was equally steep!
