This is a picture of Monterey bay and the sand dunes as you come in to Monterey, 1-hour south of San Jose but after getting lost about 1 ¾ hours south of San Jose. Our detour to Watsonville was an interesting place for a brief visit but only if you like Strawberries.

This is a picture of some of the inhabitants in the aquarium. This is an exhibit of Jelly fish. This was not taken upside down they really swim this way...

This guy didn't know what hit him those two from New Zealand have arrived where did I put my sunglasses.

This is another inhabitant of the aquarium obviously sick of being photographed... Or maybe he too heard about the two New Zealanders and was not able to get his makeup on in time...

This guy was having a wee siesta in the Mexican tradition early afternoon. After all there are lots more visitors to see you know...

After leaving the aquarium we headed back to the car through the main street and discovered that there was a motorbike show on down the main street. There were motorbikes parked down either side of the street for the length of the street and included Harley Davidsons, Classics and high performance motorbikes. See if you can spot the police bike...

This is a picture of a street where we live there are a lot of shops in this street Macy's is at the end of this street. It is about 2 blocks north of our house.

On Saturday we decided to go to the Lick Observatory because we had been told they have tours and some interesting sights. This is a picture of the road leading up to the observatory. It is a very skinny road it would be a much better drive if you were on a motor-bike.

This is another picture from the road going up to the observatory this time looking at on of the smaller and remote telescopes on the mountain.

Finally made it to the observatory you can see the dome of the 38” telescope on the left the rest of the building houses a post office and gift shop. The other houses you can see are for University and telescope support staff. This whole complex is run by the University of California Santa Cruz.

This is a picture of the 38” telescope I did not relise until I got home that I have not taken a picture of either end but this is as good as it will get.

This is a picture of the 120” reflector telescope you can just make out the base that holds the mirror. This was taken through glass in low light conditions.

This picture was taken looking back towards San Jose from the Lick Observatory. Our camera was on maximum to take this one. This is a small shot of San Jose. In about the middle of the photo there is what looks to be a road. This road is in fact the 101-Highway at this point it is about 12 lanes wide. One off ramp and 5 lane in each direction.

We decided to goto San Francisco by train at least for the first time. This is the view looking down from the top of the Nordstrom's shopping complex 9-floors built above the Powell street 'BART' train station.

We had lunch at one of the cafes on the top floor of Nordstrom's. This was the view we had looking up Powell street. The bottom of Powell street is the beginning of the Cable-Car route.

This is a picture of the Cable-Car coming down to the Powell street station we have been waiting in line here for about 30-minutes and there is still a long way to go. Still, you get to ride on 'a piece of history' and all for the princely sum of $2/each!! They have been running for over 125 years.
