A drinking cup from the Middle Ages. Fashion was a bit different then....!

Here is Karen's favourite exhibit from this Museum, the Lady and the Unicorn Tapestries. They were extremely beautiful and worth going to see if you like textile art. A few photos follow showing a couple of them.

The foundations of the museum were built in Roman times, and had a basement area showing artefacts from then, including this column decoration.

The outside of the Louvre building is adorned with many beautifully carved statues, albeit semi-nudey. A few were quite modest...

The back side of the Louvre. About a 10 minute walk to the main entrance, the internal courtyard is so big!

The back door itself was worth having a good look at, it was very intricately carved with detailed metal inserts.

As you can see here, the Louvre goes on 'forever'. We spent a few hours in ther and only saw a fraction of the exhibits, not to mention getting ourselves lost and having to consult a map...!

We wanted to get a photo of the Mona Lisa but this one will have to do instead. Apart from not being able to get close to it for a throng of people, it was covered in perspex and there were signs to say no photos. And vigilante-looking museum staff ready to spirit photo-takers away into unmarked citroen vans for interrogation... suffice it to say a photo was out of the question!

This photo of one of the ceilings in the Louvre gives away the fact it used to be a palace. Some of them were quite boring but some are a work of art like this one.

Here is Karen in the basement of the Louvre. As you can see it was quite dimly lit down there but very interesting to see the building supports and think "I'm standing at the bottom of the moat!".
